These ladies are absolutely wonderful to deal with. I started taking basic jewelry classes with Dana last fall, which quickly turned into Metalsmith classes.
Because of Dana, I discovered a passion that I’ve never known was there.
I make regular trips to restock my supplies because their pricing is great and the service is fantastic!

Love my trips to Island Gem & Beads! Dana and her staff are so knowledgeable about all their products and supplies and are always ready to give advice. Dana has even hand made findings that they ran out of but that I needed to finish a project. I always tell myself I am "just looking" at the great selection of natural stone and crystal beads but I always find a strand of something I can't live without. So glad this "gem" of a store is weathering the pandemic and keeping their doors open.

Big shout out to Dana! She did an incredible job resizing my wife's engagement ring. Although she doesn't specialize in this particular ring setting, Dana was honest and upfront from the start about what she could do. As a talented silversmith, she handled the job beautifully, and the result exceeded our expectations. Thank you so much, Dana, for your amazing work!

I have been in a few times now, and have had dealings with all 3 young ladies. Dana has a heart bigger than Canada, however her business conversation skills leave something to be desired. She gets off topic and discusses personal medical issues as if everyone was her closest friend, and forgets that there are other customers around that just want to be in and out.
Belinda is almost too efficient, and is great when in a rush and do not need conversation or help with repairs.
Sandy is my go to though. She will ask questions to be sure she is getting the right thing without making you feel like an idiot, she waves at people coming in the door and makes eye contact, and even though she holds conversations, you can see she is either pulling things out, repairing, or putting things in the computer at the same time.
The ladies are all knowledgeable, and will impart amazing information, but I think Sandy is the one with customer service background. I go on Tiesday afternoons for this reason. They make amazing custom designs there, AND they send you to where you need to go to get random things. Amazing gals.

Amazing staff! I asked if they could repair my engagement ring (missing some diamond 'chips' and the large diamond is not secure in the clasps). They were unable to help repair but gave excellent advice on who/where could help assist me further. absolutely pleasant to speak with, very friendly and helpful! Even though they couldn't repair my piece I had such a great experience there I will go back for other jewelery, feeling confident in the pieces there.

I just have to say that the woman in the store are absolutely amazing.
I walked in there today with a necklace that my son had bought his girlfriend. And it has snapped in half. I live in Chemainus and when I went to the silver mine store by the little roundabout, the lady there told me that she doesn’t work on other peoples jewelry, and that it didn’t look like the necklace was very expensive. Needless to say, it was a very sad experience. I couldn’t imagine if my son had walked into that store and wanted his necklace fixed for his girlfriend. And that lady told me the only place that would fix it would be in Nanaimo.
So I drove down to Duncan and went into the Gem store. And the women there were more than happy to help me mend the necklace that was a gift for Christmas to my son’s girlfriend. Thank you again ladies for being so amazing.

Attended a fun earring making class today and really enjoyed it. Awesome staff! Very knowledgeable, and patient instruction. Lots of beautiful 'already made' jewelry as well as so many options to make your own, with your own personal touch. Came home with a nice pair of earrings, as well as supplies to create a couple more pairs!
