When I decided to move to Alberta from Nanaimo, I scribed on a map all the towns that were twenty minutes from the Crossfield Horse Park. I had visited previously when my daughter was boarding there with her thoroughbred, Liam. He was a hard keeper, as many thoroughbreds are. He was in such good condition and seemed calmer than he was in Ontario. I put it down to the huge (by Ontario standards) paddocks and the herd life he got to enjoy. Having freedom to move, equine companions and plenty of forage his basic emotional and physical needs were fulfilled. Well tended fences, fresh water, access to mineral blocks and supplementing with round bale and oats as needed exceeded my expectations. Options for individual, paired or group dry lot with round bale or twice daily feeds of high quality grass hay were available. There are many retiree’s fed daily with soaked alfalfa, oats and any additional supplements and feed provided by the owners. Merle held for farriers and vets and doctored horses on stall rest as required. Talk about above and beyond. I have two horses here that can be moved from paddock to dry lot as required. Not to mention the acres of trails, dressage ring, barrels, gates, trot poles and jumps easily accessible three seasons. Don trailers clients to vets, with no charge pick up and delivery for boarders…try and find that. This is a no drama barn…it’s my happy place.

I've boarded my horses with Don and Merle for just over 10 years now, and I can tell you honestly that if you love horses more than anything in the world, Don and Merle still love them more.

From a business perspective, they are organized with farriers, equine dental visits, immunizations, safe and well-monitored fencing, property maintenance, repairs, groomed trails around the property, organized group rides, and they have strong relationships with local veterinarians should you need a veterinary visit. They feed great quality feed, and individual horse needs are taken into account on a daily basis where they will give supplements, medications, and plenty of love should you not be able to be there every day with your horse. They are also extremely competitively priced and very transparent about their boarding prices. They are in this for love and lifestyle, not to make a buck.

From a personal perspective, they are kind, knowledgeable and funny! It is a pleasure to be a part of the Crossfield Horse Park family. The boarders are kind and welcoming - always inviting you for a ride and visiting to chat horses and all animals.

I have raised my now senior horse at Don & Merle's, and my newest has been carefully raised there since he was a yearling. They made sure that he didn't get into any trouble as he was learning to be a horse! He was kept with horses who he would learn and grow with in pens where there is always plenty of room for each horse in the shelters, and he was carefully fed the right amounts of protein, minerals and vitamins for his bone and muscle development. They slowly introduced him over three years into a larger herd size as he and his confidence grew.

I want to make a note on one review on here from Evan that is really negative: I can say with confidence to the reader of my review that you probably know the type of person who would say such nasty things to anyone: the type of person who is dishonest and cruel themselves, yet tells others that they are the problem. Evan's lack of respect for the love and care that was given to his horse by Don and Merle is absolutely disgusting, and he boarded his horse there for a significant amount of time.

If you're looking for a real home for your horse that is safe with truly knowledgeable, caring people, Crossfield Horse Park is the place for you.

I've been a boarder with Don & Merle for over 14yrs now. For all but the last 3 year they took care of my senior horse with so much care & love. Merle stood by my side on his last day because she loves him as much as I still do.
My younger boy has been born & raised at Don & Merles. He is a healthy happy horse who gets to hang on over 30 + acres of grass with all the other mares & geldings. He is so happy & looks fantastic year round. If he starts to get too heavy they are happy to have him come in off that green grass & take a few pounds off.
Love the opportunity to ride on what we call the home quarter with the arena & obstacles set up. Its good work for their minds & bodies. There are lots of great people at this bar & the visits with boarders is half the fun.
Thank you Don & Merle from the Boys. 🙂

Apparently if u sell your horse while boarding your horse here you won't be getting your deposit back ,people come and go from this facility all tge time and I'll guarantee they've kept 250$ from each and every one that left without 29 days notice, would not recommend this place at all,no blanketing ,horses fed all times of day no real schedule. There all nice as long as it's Don's way .sold my horse so he will have love and attention every single day and to a lady that fell in love with him,he has a great home and I don't have to worry
