Five stars through and through. Super nice staff, incredible sandwiches, and a fantastic selection of meats and other goods. The store is also super clean and neat, and has a small dine in area if you need a place to sit.

I stopped by on a recommendation, and don’t regret it in the slightest!

Helmut’s Sausage Kitchen in Vernon, is my wife’s favourite place for hard to find food items, a lovely place for a nice lunch, a great German butcher shop, sausage maker and delicatessen. There is also a location in Kelowna that we used to love going to, if you are out there as well, which is larger. Both stores make all kinds of ethnic sausages and have a wide selection of German meat and hard to find German food items. Their treats are also great if you are looking for something sweet, I like the peanut butter cups.

The borscht is my wife’s favourite and she compares all borscht to it! They drive it in from their location in Kelowna every day. The schnitzel sandwiches are really tasty too, as well as the chicken Cesar wrap. We have been there for lunch many times and the food is always fast and excellent. They have a small counter and tall tables and stools where you can sit and wait for them to bring your food to your table to enjoy it.

Helmut’s is a great lunch spot on a day out, or for work and it is very affordable and they will wrap it up for you to go. It has helpful, friendly staff as well, and hard to find German specialties. A lovely spot for a quick, tasty lunch, it’s always great and the portions are very generous.

The best place to get charcuterie supplies hands down! They have all the meats, cheeses, spreads, crackers, etc you could possibly need. The service is always quick and friendly. They have a great team. This is a Vernon gem for sure

I have lived in Vernon BC for many years, remembering Paula West as a customer in the Health Food store that I worked in throughout the years. I remember the opening of Helmut's Sausage. I knew of the farm that Helmut and Paula lived on.
I know that Helmut's are in the process of building a larger facility on Waddington Drive in Vernon, BC, so it seems business is thriving.
I purchased $6 worth of sliced beef and two beef pot pies.
Staff was asked how long it takes to warm up pot pies with varying answers By body language, I could tell the staff were guessing at how long it would take to warm up the pot pies. Crust on one pot pie was unbaked. It took 25 minutes to warm up the pot pies in the oven at 350 degrees F.
The sliced beef provided one meal for us. Going back to get second meal, on July 13, 2025, the beef was green. I know that meat can go green from oxidation, however, this looked unsightly and not appealing to eat. I took it back to Helmut's and asked to speak to the manager. Manager / Owner Monica, did not give me the courtesy to stop long enough in her duties - only to say "It's marbled" as she went by. Other staff passed on the message that the meat was good enough to eat, at which point I left the meat with the till slip on their counter and walked out.
I know being a business Owner, can be demanding; however, a reminder that it is your customers that keep you in business. I was disappointed in the service provided and lack of more one on one with the manager / owner. I will not return to Helmut's Sausage anytime soon, nor give it a good recommendation.

Very clean exterior and interior with lots of frozen food options that are of the Helmut brand. The deli also had a large variety of deli meat and cheese. If you are looking for a small takeout snack then this seems like the place to go.

My boyfriend and I both ordered the grilled Russian ruben. The staff was super nice and asked us if we wanted the sandwich heated up. It came with tons of meat and tasted very authentic! I also ordered a pepperoni stick to go which was basically a flakey coated pepperoni stick. It was super yummy.

The only con about this place was our interaction with the owner's wife. She seemed very involved with the business and made small talk with customers, which is nice, but I find it offensive when you barely know someone and they look you up and down and ask you "what do you do for work". My boyfriend and I are tanned and both have tattoos so maybe she assumed we did not have proper jobs? I'm a registered nurse and he works in insurance with an IT background.

Then she talked about how her husband would refuse to eat in some Vietnamese restaurants because the restaurant smelt like cat. Which is super racist and something you should not be sharing with your customers, especially your Asian ones.

We had a wonderful late lunch at Helmut's in Vernon. The sandwiches and soup were delicious and home-made. The staff were so helpful and accommodating. After lunch we spent about $75 in the deli and had some of the best meats, sausage rolls and pepperoni sticks we've ever had! My only complaint is that they're so far away from where we live! Five BIG stars to Helmut's!

I finally remembered to stop in and I’m glad I did! Great service and selection of meats, euro deli goods like sauces, jams, olives, caviar, etc. Great quality and seasoning in all the meats, authentic! I ordered a Reuben on rye sandwich that was was bomb and I don’t usually like sauerkraut - must try! Also recommend double smoked sausage, cooked mennonite, turkey kielbasa, meat loaf and pepperonis (cherry & Mexican). Definitely a new staple for us.
