This used to be my go-to grocery store but after my last online delivery order, I won't be back. This is a photo of the raspberries that I got sent that the personal shopper for their store picked out for me - there were 2 like this and it was $10. I also received a carton of milk with no lid on it, so just the part you pull
off under the screw lid, and the top was dirty. and then I received a three pack of Romaine lettuce that the tops had been cut off and it was all rusty and old looking. Yes, I was able to submit a claim and I got a refund on all of this, but the point is I do online shopping and get it delivered because I am busy with 3 young kids and can't make it to the store. I would expect that the shopper would be picking out food that they would personally pick for themselves, not the rotten food that I wouldn't even feed to my chickens.... irritated and annoyed and won't be shopping here again -

I recently had a deeply disappointing experience at Independent Grocery that left me feeling judged and upset. It all started on a Monday morning where I was already stressed, as my husband was in significant tooth pain and needed liquid Advil urgently. In a rush to help, I dashed over to the store @7am, grabbing what I needed: the Advil and a jug of milk.

However, when I attempted to pay, luck was not on my side. My phone payment was declined—something that can happen to anyone, especially in a hurry. Instead of receiving understanding or support from the staff, I was met with disapproving looks from multiple employees, which only added to my anxiety. Despite my attempts to explain my situation and that I just needed a moment to transfer funds, I felt rushed and judged, rather than supported.

I noticed that the employees' body language communicated a lack of trust, and it felt as though I was being treated like a potential thief rather than a customer in distress. I left the store feeling humiliated, overwhelmed, and in tears—not because I felt I had done anything wrong, but because the environment made me feel unwelcome.

As I exited, I couldn’t help but notice the disarray outside the store—the litter and stains on the pavement—which seemed to add to the overall impression of neglect. It made me question the priorities of the staff and management. If they were so quick to judge a paying customer, perhaps they could redirect their efforts toward maintaining a cleaner environment for everyone.

What truly saddened me was the realization that my distress would likely go unnoticed by the employees who had witnessed it. They didn't take a moment to offer kindness or understanding, which is what I—and any customer—would hope for in a service environment.

I urge Independent Grocery to consider the importance of empathy and training for their staff. We all have our battles, and a little compassion can go a long way. I hope that others don’t have to leave feeling the way I did—upset and misunderstood—when all one wants is to make a simple purchase.

Until there is a change in approach, I can’t recommend this store. There are lessons to be learned about treating all customers with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Good size selection of South African favourites. They appear to have a good selection of various countries across the globe.

Had only positive experiences until today. I don't appreciate being chased down by security based on nothing but what I look like. I spent over 100 dollars at the pharmacy after a long day at work and your female security guard had nothing better to do than embarrass me in front of people by chasing me down and asking if I paid. Not sure what about me triggered that but it made me feel like garbage when I already feel like garbage. Don't accuse people for literally no reason other than you don't like the look of them.

For general groceries, it's well stocked pastries and donuts are pre-made. Upside staff are really helpful and polite

I love this place,
But I really don't understand the logic of selling half rotten produce, meat, fish with 30% discount.
My beef literally smelled and tasted like fish. It had still a day on the expiry, but the meat was darker brown, barely red inside.
The stomach went bad since yesterday.
Crazy. . .
Once I complained to a supervisor, he seemed like, he just doesn't care.

Bakery is often lacking selection and freshness. Prices represent it being the only "grocery" store in the immediate area. My real issue here is Security. Idiot followed me down every aisle last week while I took my 89 year old grandmother shopping for nearly half an hour until I had enough and said something. Did not appreciate the blantant profiling because of what I can only assume was me wearing a backpack in the store and going very slow because of my grandmother's age. My grandmother's emergency medication doesn't fit in my pockets. Disgraceful, have some common sense if your going to work security, do you think a grown man with his elderly grandmother is shoplifting?
