Redd Fish Restoration Society (RFRS) has a new retail home on Ucluelet’s Main commercial street of Peninsula. It is a gem of a spot, which offers a wide range of items for sale — supplies, books, soaps & other gifts & souvenirs, including an array of great coffees.
RFRS is a non-profit, established in 1995.
Its new retail outlet is located in a wonderfully renovated building, totally transformed from its previously life when it housed the ocean village’s “corner store”, which sold groceries, pop, takeouts & the like.
The shop is centrally located in this stunning west coast ocean village —- known affectionately to locals as Ukee —& is likely to become an important meeting hub for locals, as well as a must visit spot for visitors. It is a terrific place to buy outdoor supplies, & interesting & mindful gifts, as I did.
RFRS’ mission is to help build awareness of the importance of conserving the natural resources the region has been blessed with, such as its salmon habitats & forests. It has made significant strides in this area, especially with regard to watersheds & the like.
RFRS has an educational stream table at the center of the store, which illustrates for children & adults alike the ecological environment for exactly this purpose.
The Sunday I went in over the Labour Day weekend, I was lucky to have been served by one of its summer super staffers, Ava, who helped me select small & interesting gifts for my two grandchildren to mark the beginning of their 2024/25 academic year. Thank you Ava for your gracious service. I had been told of its wonderful coffees, & fellow staffer, Cedric, made me a delicious latte. Indeed RFRS’ coffees are good.
RFRS shop is a welcome retail addition to Ukee.
It also offers a wide range of outdoor awareness activities. It has a great outdoor fundraiser coming up soon in mid September, with others following later.
RFRS has a terrific shop to visit; offers a range of interesting & mindful outside activities, as well as being an important learning hub for the community.

Person running the store when we went was lovely and helpful. Very kind. Cool place with things for the kids to do. Had a great experience.

This place is so good. Our kids love the stream table and the shop has some really unique stuff, which all supports salmon habitat restoration. Our 11 year old left with a scrimshaw knife set - where else are you going to find that?! Loved it. Will be back for sure next time we’re in Ukee.

This is by far my favorite store on the peninsula! They have a delightful array of camping and field-naturalist supplies, appropriate for aspiring naturalists of all ages. They also have work by local artists, t-shirts, hoodies, etc, and all the sales from the store benefit their important watershed restoration work. A must-visit!
