Myself and my friend attended this farmer market and we had a poor experience which we aren’t sure whether it’s attributed to people being racist but it felt like we were treated very different than customers who were not people of color. We purchased from two vendors and felt like they were very unwelcoming and one vendor when interested in their soap completely ignored us. The worst stall was the fresh flowers stall. As my friend went to ask the vendor questions about the flowers I was taking photos of her flowers and she stated “no photoshoot”. We were genuinely interested in her flowers and she stopped answering my friends questions about the flowers after that and ignoring us. There are no rules against taking photos and it’s ridiculous this is the experience we received here. The vendor was not in any photos and it’s clear that other people here have also experienced being told to take no photos. If anything taking such photos would help promote the farmers market. I grew up in a small town in northern BC and I cannot relate to the experience and customer service I had today.

Edit: I am still very confused why the managers response still makes excuse on behalf of the florist vendor for not allowing photos when the vendor in question has an instagram @rubysrunurbanfarms where her flower arrangements are present. How proprietary are her flower arrangements when multiple have been posted on her own social media? Sorry, do better. Her own google reviews suggest that she has acted unkind to others on several occasions. We were taking photos respectfully and briefly and abiding by the law.

I visited the Sechelt Farmers Market during the opening of the season on April 5, 2025, and overall, it was a great experience. Most of the vendors were very warm and welcoming, and I really enjoyed browsing and buying from the many food stalls.

However, I had a disappointing experience at one of the stalls — Sushma’s Samosas. I was drawn to it because I love pakoras, but the vendor didn’t seem happy to have me around and told me I couldn’t take photos of the display. It made me feel unwelcome, which was disheartening. Because of that, I didn’t stop by her stall again the following Saturday, and I’ll likely wait until next season before considering giving it another try.

That aside, the rest of the market was vibrant and fun. I appreciate all the other friendly vendors and will definitely continue supporting the market!

Part of my weekend ritual is to visit the Sechelt Farmer Market. Of course, my walk through and purchasing would not be complete without a visa it to Ruby’s Run farm stand. The flower bouquets are magnificent - the best ever! The produce like tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries, onions and garlic are sooooo good!
Michelle and Paul are wonderful people who bring great product to market. It’s definitely worth your time to stop by and get some flowers and produce!

I also love the charcuterie boards at tree to table. Kevin’s boards are so beautiful and he is always fun to talk to!

My next stop is for Christopher Norman chocolate! Joe and John are great people who make great chocolate.

Visited this market on July 15/23. What a fantastic selection from the local vendors. We stocked up on lots of vegetables from different farms. Purchased some beautiful art cards. Decided to find something to take back to our Airbnb for lunch. We chose EatsWest and he prepared two falafel wraps for us. Everything house made, falafels, hummus, bread. So many fresh vegetables. We’ve craved this wrap every day since. The best we’ve ever eaten.
If you are in Sechelt on a Saturday, don’t miss out!
